From Humble Beginnings to Dream Homes
San Juan Homes was founded in 2017 by Erik Winther, along with Cobey and Christa Hampton—three friends with a shared passion for building high-quality, lasting homes in the heart of Colorado. Erik’s background in construction runs deep. He grew up working alongside his father, a general contractor in Arizona, and after earning his degree from NAU, he spent over 15 years in the field building homes. In 2013, Erik relocated to Pagosa Springs and became a certified home inspector to better understand the specific building needs of the region.
A few years later, Erik teamed up with the Hamptons to build spec homes. The collaboration worked so well, they officially launched San Juan Homes in 2017 and expanded into custom homebuilding by 2018. In 2021, the company built a 5,000 sq. ft. warehouse and office to support their growing team and project volume.
Today, San Juan Homes is a close-knit, family-run company. Erik leads construction in the field and also drafts all the in-house designs for the San Juan Homes Collection. His wife, Brandy Winther, keeps the business running smoothly as our office manager. She works closely with clients and lenders, guiding them through the loan and draw process, and ensuring everyone stays informed and confident from start to finish.
Cobey and Christa Hampton commute between Scottsdale, AZ and Pagosa Springs. Cobey oversees sales and bidding—though you’ll also find him out in the field from time to time, jumping on a piece of equipment and handling dirt work when needed. Christa manages marketing, assists with design, and helps clients navigate their selections to bring their vision to life. It’s a true team collaboration, with each of us bringing our unique strengths to the table to deliver exceptional homes.
